My audience may probably think about science fiction stories related to alien invasions resulting in the apocolypse such as "War of the Worlds," If they have played the video game "Halo Reach" I imagine that they would draw connections of a suicidal mission under these circumstances. For those not familiar with those media, they might draw a historical comparison with human history of mass genocide such as Rawanda or the Holocaust.
2) Within a particular genre
The genre is science fiction, obviously due to the circumstances of the apocolypse. However, this story also stands in the documentary genre due to the fact that the events told are from a single observers perspective of the world around him.

When I use these images to tell this story, I want to convey the sacrifice that is made by individuals who risk their lives to report from war zones. I want to express that we must never forget these people and their dedication to look at such horror so that others will know its happening.

Here, in this story, I want to show the importance of self sacrifice in the face of impossible odds. How it defines who we are and what we leave behind. That it is an important part of what seperates the human race from all other forms of life.
